Job Summary:
The Department of Chemistry and Geosciences at Jacksonville State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2018. Applicants with expertise in areas of biochemistry are encouraged to apply. All candidates must have a Ph.D in Chemistry by the time of appointment. The prospective candidates must be strongly committed to engaged learning at the undergraduate level. Candidate must be an outstanding teacher/scholar who will contribute to the inclusiveness and diversity efforts in the sciences. This position includes instruction in biochemistry lecture and lab (including opportunities to teach lecture and lab courses at the introductory level) as well as contributes to an upper-division course in the candidates area of expertise. Successful candidates will demonstrate: a commitment to mentoring, meaningful undergraduate research in our Chemistry Program; a willingness to collaborate with faculty specializing in chemistry and other disciplines; and be engaged in university, professional, and community or public service.
Essential Functions:
Teaches introductory and upper level courses in Chemistry, as well as specialty areas within the field.
Responsible for teaching undergraduates through active learning pedagogy and will show aptitude and inclination for engaging students in research, both through individual mentored research as well as course-embedded undergraduate research experiences.
Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students and is consistent with University requirements.
Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives, in order to maximize student achievement.
Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities that serve the needs and capabilities of the students and are compatible with the physical facilities.
Manage student behavior in the classroom.
Continually communicate to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, as well as student progress.
Actively participate in and work with University personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.
Exhibit a commitment to scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service.
Participate in professional growth activities including staff meetings, in-service, and staff development as required or assigned.
Assist in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
Ensure that the classroom or instructional environment is healthy, safe, and conducive to learning.
Participate in extra-curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or the Dean of the School of Science.
Serve on various committees.
Belong to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participate in their activities.
Take attendance and keep attendance registers, according to JSU policy.
Meet the minimum tenure requirements as defined by the department and the School of Science.
Performs other duties as assigned by the department head.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D in Chemistry at the time of appointment
Accomplishments sufficient to indicate the ability to meet requirements of the rank of Assistant Professor at JSU in teaching, service, and scholarly publications

Experience and knowledge of the following:
Bruker Ascend 400 MHz NMR
high-performance liquid chromatography apparatus
gas chromatography/mass spectrometer
molecular modeling and visualization software
infrared and ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometers
high-precision differential scanning (micro) calorimeter - Combustion calorimeter
various spectrofluorimeters
Gel Electrophoresis
PCR (polymerase chain reaction)

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
