Job Summary:
The Department of Biology invites applications for an entry-level, tenure-track position effective fall, 2019. PhD in any biological field required. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a background in the biomedical sciences or related areas, though any innovative candidate with a strong interest in teaching will be considered. Establishment of a research program to support undergraduates and masters-level graduate students is required. The job entails a collegial commitment to professional, university, and community service as well as advising students.
Essential Functions:
Teach courses in introductory biology, anatomy and physiology, and genetics as well as specialty areas within the field.
Responsible for teaching undergraduates through active learning pedagogy and will show aptitude and inclination for engaging students in research, both through individual mentored research as well as course-embedded undergraduate research experiences. Responsible for teaching and mentoring masters-level graduate students.
Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students and is consistent with University requirements.
Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives, in order to maximize student achievement.
Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities that serve the needs and capabilities of the students and are compatible with the physical facilities.
Manage student behavior in the classroom.
Continually communicate to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, as well as student progress.
Actively participate in and work with University personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.
Exhibit a commitment to scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service.
Participate in professional growth activities including staff meetings, in-service, and staff development as required or assigned.
Assist in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
Ensure that the classroom or instructional environment is healthful, safe, and conducive to learning.
Participate in extra-curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or the Dean of the School of Science.
Serve on various committees.
Belong to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participate in their activities.
Take attendance and keep attendance registers, according to JSU policy.
Performs other duties as assigned by the department head.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate or ABD with completion date by May 1, 2019 in one of the content areas managed within the Department of Biology.
Accomplishments sufficient to indicate the ability to meet requirements of the rank of Assistant Professor Biology at JSU in teaching, service, and scholarly publications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
